High Times Cannabis Cup 2022: People’s Choice

The High Times Cannabis Cup is an annual event that combines the best parts of festival, trade show, and cannabis competition into a global celebration of ganja. It was founded in 1988 by former High Times editor Steve Hager, and has undergone many evolutions since then.

In the beginning, it was an underground competition hosted in Amsterdam Remember when Amsterdam was the only country where you could legally smoke weed? Times sure have changed. Then, around the dawn of the American medical marijuana movement, it served as a showcase of different medicinal products that became available. Now it’s become a world-renowned expert-driven competition to find the best of the best in the world of recreational cannabis—at least, until the past two years.

COVID-19 changed a lot about our lifestyle , and that includes how we celebrate cannabis. The High Times Cannabis Cup was unable to continue its packed, in-person events consisting of instructional seminars, celebrity appearances, concerts, and product showcases out of concern for limiting the spread of this new disease, but they’re no strangers to adversity. The silver lining of this heavy cloud has brought forth the Cannabis Cup People’s Choice Edition, the next evolution in the Cannabis Cup’s history.

The High Time Cannabis Cup People’s Choice Edition offers cannabis consumers the opportunity to get in on the fun and vote directly on the best cannabis each region has to offer. For the first time, High Times is opening the judging process to members of the public to crowdsource its rankings. Instead of having around thirty experts judging each category, High Times is partnering with select retailers to send out 228 kits per category in state-wide competitions around the country.

These categories include:

  1. Indica Flower
  2. Hybrid Flower
  3. Sativa Flower
  4. Sungrown Flower
  5. Pre-Rolls (Infused and Non-Infused)
  6. Solvent Concentrates
  7. Non-Solvent Concentrates
  8. Vape Pens and Cartridges
  9. Edibles: Gummies
  10. Edibles: Non-Gummies
  11. Topicals, Tinctures, and Capsules

If you’re like us, you’re probably wondering: can I be a judge in the Cannabis Cup People’s Choice? The answer is: probably! If you’re not a cannabis cultivator entering product to be judged, you can apply to be a judge and purchase a kit of product to evaluate. Each Judge Kit contains an exclusive backpack, samples, and a scorecard with a unique link and access code to the High Times Judging Portal. They’ll be sold on a first-come, first-served basis at participating dispensaries, priced according to the quantity of product entered into each category (usually between $100 and $300.)

Since Oregon’s 2022 High Times Cannabis Cup People’s Choice has not been announced, now is the perfect time to pre-register as a judge. Follow this link to fill out a short form and be among the first to know when People’s Choice Judging Kits are available in Oregon.
